A Clinical Study of 100 Cases of Gallstone Disease


Abstract
We analized 100 cases of biliary tract stone disease who had been treated sugically at the Department of surgery, St. Columban's Hospital for 3 years from Sep. 1989 to Oct 1992.
@ES The results were obtained as follows:
@EN 1) The male to female ration was 1:1.4 and the peak incidence of age was the 6th decade.
2) The most frequent chief complaint was abdominal pain and physical finding was tenderness on the RUQ abdomen.
3) The laboratory tests were leukocytosis and increased of SGOT, SGPT..
4) Location of billary stones was as follos; GB in 78 cases, CBD in 45 cases and IHD in 27 cases. The retained stones were found in 4 cases which were located in both CBD and IHD, in 4 cases in GB and CBD and IHD.
5) Bile culture was done 73 cases and positive in 21 cases. The most common bacteria was F. coli in 10 cases.
6) The postoperative complication was developed in 24 cases and main complications were wound infection, pulmonary complication and bile leakage.
7) Removal of retained was by choledochoscopy and reoperation. Choledochoscopy was useful for reducing the retained stones but aggressive surgical treatment such as hepatectomy was more useful for intrahepatic stones with bile duct stenosis.
